An adventure beyond comparison

When I look back at the days that have made an everlasting impression on my mind, the memories of this day rush to my head. What a day it was! OMIGOD ! What an adventure ! phew I don't think I can handle one more of those.
Now enough of build-up.I will come to the point. Two years back ...,now this was the time when we were busy exploring bangalore. Coming from small towns in Kerala, a place like bangalore with all its glitz and glamour would make anyone's curiosity shoot up.And we were no exception either. There were five of us and like most people of our age we used to do all sorts of pangas. This incident is about one such day when a panga went horribly wrong.
If I remember it right, we five had left from office really late.By about 8pm or so and we were roaming around in bangalore central till about 10pm till they closed down and asked us to leave. We had dinner from somewhere and like any normal day when we have dinner from outside we took the 'saunf' that comes along with the bill. This time around we had taken a bit too much of it..
After dinner we started walking aimlessly for one hour or so and then we realized we had to reach home and then started searching for an auto.He left us about 1 km away from the house. Then we started walking home. Just as we started walking one of us threw a piece of the 'saunf' in the air and caught it with his mouth.Btw this was one of our timepass activities back then. One guy would throw it up in the air and the other guy would run around catching this with his mouth. What a silly game to play ?
And this was about 2am in the morning. As we took more and more steps the noise became louder and we started shouting and howling.Meanwhile one guy took out his sony ericsson camera phone and started recording this whole stuff. And this created even more hungama.Just as this was ongoing I think I was the first one to notice a bike coming from quite a distance. There was noone on the road.Remember it was about 2 am in the morning. It was a pulsar, I could figure that out from a distance. As the bike came closer the color became more prominent. The bike was having the color of a cheetah.Yellow with black dots
Now for all of you who dont know who rides such weird color motor bikes, heres a quick piece of info.Bangalore police rides them.About 20 metres from us,the bike stopped and 2 people stepped down and came closer to us.One of them was carrying a 'lathi'.Then all of us became quiet. We thought ,he would just scare us away.He took steps one by one.Just as he was about 2 feet away from us.He took his lathi and had a violent swing at us.I heard a loud noise. The sound of 'lathi' hitting flesh. That beautiful sound. For a moment or so, I was spell bound. What the hell is happening ? By the time it clicked to me that we were being assaulted by the keepers of law my friend was almost 5 or six steps ahead of me and was running for his life.I was motionless. What put me back on my senses was one such blow on my shoulder. The next thing I remember , I was running for my life as well and believe me I have never run so fast in my life.Never ever.. But alas ! the police man was a much better athlete.
By the time I had reached my full speed I had already got a couple of decent blows on my head and neck.We ran continuously for about 300 meters or so.Two of my friends were left behind. And thanks to them the police man was satisfied with the 2 birds in hand rather than running after the 3 birds in the bush. Those 2 got majority of the pounding.I ran all the way till the 3rd floor into my house and locked the door.I was afraid the policeman would come searching inside the house. So we Quickly switched off the lights. After a few seconds we heard knock on the door. But thank lord it was the other 2 guys who had got left behind. All were so surprised and were still coming to terms with what had happened a few minutes earlier.
Then once things became normal, slowly I started feeling pain here and there on my body. But it was too late at night that we dint discuss much about it and went to sleep after putting on some pain killer balms. The next morning the pain was still there and while brushing my teeth the hot topic of discussion was who got the first pounding. We knew that the first one was on someones leg. Then one of the guys said "It was definitely not me.If it was me then I would have had a bruise on my leg . See ?" And saying this he lifted his shorts a bit and there was a long black mark. None of us could stop laughing for another 5 minutes. He also had marks on his elbows. In a way I was thankful to him because if it was not for him,I would have had couple more marks on my body.
What was funny about the whole incident and what keeps the memories of that day so fresh in my mind is without doubt the adrenaline rush involved. My heart had never beaten so fast, my legs had never run so fast and my body had never taken such nasty blows.Well as some wise man rightly said, life is not about the number of times your heart beats but the number of heartbeats it skips.Well that day my heart skipped a beat too many.....
